Beat Michigan and Local Volunteer Opportunity all in one

Whats better than beating that team up north? Beating them while helping our local community.
We have spots for 25 people to participate so please email Cory for a disclosure form or 941-961-0505.
The event details:
Date: May 2nd
Time: 9 am-12
Organization: All Faiths Food Bank
Location: 8171 Blakie Ct Sarasota FL 34240.
We will be sorting as many boxes as possible in that 3 hours. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
Volunteers are extremely important to the All Faiths Food Bank – without their labor of love we simply could not accomplish our mission. In the last year, volunteers contributed over 31,739 hours of service. Put another way, at the national hourly standard for volunteer labor according to the Independent Sector the service is equivalent to -- $22.14 per hour making its value $677,945!
Food Sorters inspect and repack donated items for the Food Bank. These items can include: canned goods, food products in glass containers, packaged dry food items, baby items, paper products, cleaning items, fresh produce and packaged meat, and other miscellaneous items. These items are repacked and prepared for the Food Bank inventory. The inventoried items are then distributed to our partner agencies which distribute them to their clients. Sorters are a key part of preparing items for distribution to those in need.
Quality Assurance is also a key part of the sorting process. Sorters are responsible for the integrity of the product that is distributed. This includes assuring the product is packed with the appropriate weight per box; the appropriate contents per box and that all products are clean, safe and non-contaminated. Proper sorting procedures will help ensure that our partner agencies receive the highest quality product we can provide.
It is imperative each volunteer reads the Volunteer handbook to learn how to properly sort salvage and donated items. This handbook will help Sorters play a key role in the distribution of product to the partner agencies.
Food Sorters need to come to work dressed appropriately. You will probably get a bit dirty, so dress accordingly. For safety reasons, sandals and flip-flops will not be allowed. Closed toe and heel shoes (i.e. sneakers) must be worn. Short shorts and halter tops are considered inappropriate. It is also advisable to limit bracelets and rings when possible. They can get caught on boxes and packages. Our volunteers’ safety and the safety of the food provided to our neighbors in need are our primary concerns!
As a general rule children under the age of 4 should not be in the sorting room for safety reasons. Children between ages 4 and 14 should have either a parent or responsible adult with them during the time they are working in the sorting room, and should NEVER be allowed near moving machinery (e.g. pallet jacks, forklifts).
